Charter Cancellation Policy

One person’s perfect day on the water may be too hot for one and too cold for the another. As a small charter boat company, last-minute cancellations are very costly. At the same time, we understand that things come up. Some of the most amazing moments on the river are spectacular sunsets just after a quickly passing summer rain and we would hate for you to miss the magic on the other side of that storm cloud. Please trust us to make weather determinations so you are able to experience your best adventure.

We do not allow cancellations for less than ideal weather. If the weather is deemed unsafe by our captains due to high winds, lightning, rain, storms in the area, or other conditions we will call you to cancel or move your reservation.

We reserve the right to cancel or shorten a trip at any time due to extreme weather conditions deemed unsafe. If the charter has been shortened to less than 75% of the scheduled duration, a partial refund may be issued.

If you cancel within one week (7 days) or more notice you will receive a 100% gift certificate to use another time.

No shows and cancellations within less than 48 hours of the event, for any reason, are subject to full charter cost.

When you purchase a charter, you are purchasing a slot of time. If you are late for a charter, we will wait for you. However, the excursion is for the time allotted. If you purchase a sailboat cruise from 6-9 PM (3hrs) and you arrive late, the cruise will still end at 9PM.

Cancellations made by our staff due to weather or mechanical problems will receive the option of rescheduling or a full refund.

We reserve the right to cancel a trip due to intoxication and/or inappropriate behavior deemed unsafe by the Captain from passengers aboard the charter.

Weather Policy

The Hudson River Valley has micro-climate variations that cannot always be accurately predicted the day before a scheduled trip.  Adventure Boat Club, Inc. will make the sole decision regarding the river and adverse weather conditions for a charter or camp experience by watching real-time weather systems on the radar to track exact locations and timing of weather events. Do not expect cancellations due to potential regional conditions predicted by most weather apps.  If we cancel an outing due to adverse weather or poor river conditions, we give our customers the option to reschedule their trip.  If a trip cannot be rescheduled, a full refund will be made.

Adverse weather conditions are those that either prevent the boat from leaving port or that avert the boat trip from being carried out with full guarantees of safety and comfort for our travelers.

Examples of adverse weather conditions:

  • Strong wind forecast with gusts or sustained speeds exceeding 20 knots.

  • Prediction of intense rain for a period of time exceeding 20% of the total duration of the excursion.

  • Choppy water, or high volume of flotsam.

  • Above 95 degree Fahrenheit temperatures with no wind and high heat index

Examples of weather conditions that are NOT adverse weather conditions:

  • There is a forecast that shows it is cloudy or there is little sun.

  • There is a possibility of weak rains during a period of less than 20% of the total time for the excursion.

  • Weather forecast at the beginning of the week called for a chance of rain over the weekend when charter is scheduled.

  • Below 60 degree temperatures
